Refer to the following list of descriptions and substitutions for clarification of ingredients and/or terms.

  • Bitters The flavoring ingredient BITTERS is commonly ANGOSTURA brand and is different from ORANGE BITTERS, which is naturally orange flavored. BITTERS are actually considered garnishes, however, Barbug includes them in the mixers list since they are important ingredients that are mixed with the drink.
  • Coffee Liqueur: You can substitute Coffee Liqueur with KAHLUA or TIA MARIA.
  • Triple Sec: Substitutes for COINTREAU.
  • Whiskey is the often referred to American Blend Whiskey. Some guests may prefer a rye whiskey or bourbon.
  • Creme De Noyaux: An Almond based liqueur.
  • Dubonnet: A red French aperitif, there is also a white (American) version. Dubonnet Red is recommended.
  • Cream substitutes for milk and vice versa.
